Sewer Line Maintenance and Repair
Maintaining your sewer lines can prevent costly repairs down the road. Regular maintenance includes inspecting your lines for leaks, cleaning out blockages, and preventing tree roots from infiltrating the pipes.
How to Remove a Sewer Cleanout
A sewer cleanout is a small access point in your sewer line that allows for cleaning and inspection. Removing a sewer cleanout is a relatively simple process that can be completed in a few steps:
- Locate the sewer cleanout. It is typically located in a basement, crawl space, or outside your home near the foundation.
- Remove the cap from the cleanout. Use a wrench or pliers to loosen the cap and pull it off.
- Insert a drain snake or auger into the cleanout. Rotate the snake or auger clockwise to clear any blockages.
- Once the blockage is cleared, flush the sewer line with water to remove any debris.
- Replace the cap on the cleanout.
